At CareerLink, everything job seekers need is under one roof and now more accessible.
No, Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson is not looking for another job. She is just visiting the grand opening of the new location for the Capitol Region CareerLink office.
This, along with seven other county agencies in the South Central area, has helped more than 1800 people find jobs, including Darlene Leverty.
“It helps with your computer skills and I also think they need a place in Harrisburg where you can reach unemployment offices because we are overwhelmed,” explained Darlene Leverty.
CareerLink offices, and there are 67 throughout the state, help cut down on the stress job seekers can have by offering several services to make folks more employable.
Folks like Tirrell Moon of Harrisburg, who has the obstacle of being a convicted felon to add to his stress, remains confident that with the help he gets from the CareerLink office, he will make a positive change in his community.
“Well, they give you the tools to actually network through the system, they give you the system to apply for different areas and different locations as well as on the board here they give you different seminars to attend,” Moon told us.
There are some people who can't even use the career resource center because they lack basic computer skills, but CareerLink provides services for those people too.
“Some people come in and don't have any computer skills at all, they can't even use our career resource center because they don't have the skills to use a mouse,” commented CareerLink administrator Susan Harwood we have basic computer skills workshops that we have>
Harwood says the new location at 100 North Cameron is also close to public transportation, so that help getting a new job is even easier now to get to.
