Of our entire viewing area, Lancaster may get hit the hardest.

But emergency and electrical crews are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

Emergency management officials in Lancaster tell us this storm has the potential to be historic in terms of power outages, flooding and even possibly tornadoes. They are not taking any chances and preparing for the worst.

With upwards of 10 inches of rain and sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, South Central Pennsylvania is preparing for what’s coming. In Lancaster County
PPL will bring in crews from Kentucky to help out.

Also, since last year’s storms in the fall PPL has beefed up its phone and emergency capacity to better handle disasters. Randy Gockley is with Lancaster County Emergency Management.

He says they are coordinating efforts with local police, fire and emergency crews. They are also telling the public to have plenty of water and food on hand and be prepared to be without power for up to five days.

“Hopefully people are taking it seriously,” commented Lancaster County Emergency Management Director Randy Gockley. “This is going to be a major event for south central PA and this will be something we may be able to tell our children and grandchildren about; the great storm of 2012.”

If you have a power outage during the storm the number to call for PPL is very simple, it’s just 1-800-DIAL-PPL. For non-emergency situations, call 211.
