Dauphin County today evaluated further damages to businesses and homes due to Hurricane Sandy. Of the 160 records reported county-wide, 153 (95.6%) were in Lower Paxton Township.
The following totals are county-wide based upon initial damage reports compiled by local emergency managers. The totals for all structures (single & multi-family homes, businesses) are as follows:
· Destroyed: 3 (1 businesses and 2 multi-family homes)
· Major Damage: 15 (2 businesses and 13 single family homes)
· Minor Damage: 92
o 3 businesses
o 2 mobile homes
o 23 multifamily homes and
o 64 single family homes
· Affected: 41 (all single family homes)
· Inaccessible: 4 (all single family homes)
Public items were also evaluated and reported as follows:
· Damaged: 3 debris removal assets (Lower Paxton), 1 power supply site (Lower Paxton), 1 road (Susquehanna Township)
· Affected: 3 debris removal assets (Lower Paxton), 1 Fire/EMS station (Lower Paxton), 2 parks (1 in Middletown and 1 in South Hanover Township), 1 Nursing Home (Susquehanna), 4 roads (Derry Township), 1 school (Swatara Township)
No agricultural damages were reported to municipalities or to Dauphin County directly. Tax assessment will begin to survey each identified location in order to produce a dollar value for each. Additionally, while the initial report classifies some as destroyed, a final determination is rendered after a dollar value estimate is produced.
