The Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society, the 501(c) (3) non-profit community service organization that operates the Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat, is selling Gift Certificates and Friends of the Pride Memberships to support the Society over the winter months while the Pride is in dry dock. Thousands of dollars are needed to help prep and refurbish the Pride over the winter so she is “ship-shape” for the spring. With limited income during the winter, gift certificates help fund these efforts. The proceeds from the Gift Certificates and Memberships will also help the Society fund programs focused on community service.
These programs include special events such as free monthly cruises for veterans and a free weekly non-denominational Sunday morning cruise, as well as partnerships with other charities. Proceeds will also help benefit the Society’s mission of education through the Susquehanna River School. Classes at the Susquehanna River School occur weekly during the summer on the Pride (the only floating classroom on the Susquehanna River), teaching children and adults about the history, ecology, and natural wonders of our beautiful Susquehanna River.
“The Pride was built to serve the community, and because of this mission, we need community support to not only keep the riverboat afloat, but to also allow us to continue the many community service programs that we offer during the summer,” says Andrew Ponti, Executive Director of the Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society. “Plus,” Ponti adds, “Gift Certificates and Memberships make great, thoughtful and unique gift ideas! Gift Certificates are available for Classic Dinner Cruises, Murder Mystery Dinner Cruises, as well as the popular Pirates on the Pride family cruises, Wine & Cheese Tasting Cruises, Fireworks Dinner Cruises, Crackin’ Crabs Cruises, and many, many more!. Alternatively, Memberships for the Friends of the Pride organization, a group of Pride supporters who demonstrate their passion for the Society’s mission through yearly contributions, are available as well. For their support, Friends of the Pride members receive special benefits depending on the level. Individual, family, and business member levels are available.
