Lines at polling places moving quickly in Susquehanna Valley

The minutes are ticking away until the polls close at 8p.  There have been reports of long lines in other states such as Florida and Ohio.

But here in the Susquehanna Valley, most places aren't seeing the long lines.  Overall I've seen a very smooth process and one of the key reasons we haven't seen overwhelming lines is that we only have elected officials on the ballot.

In Susquehanna Township just eight offices that need to choose a winner, so voters are only taking a couple of minutes in the voting booth.   Opposed to states with pages of amendments and complicated propositions, so voters say in Florida are taking 15 - 20 minutes to cast their 12 page ballot.

Tuesday morning at a one polling place in Susquehanna Township, when polls opened the line stretched almost back to the fire department, at that time it was taking about 45 minutes to go through the line and cast ballots.  At about 4 Tuesday afternoon, that line was down to about a mere 10 minutes to get it done.

Ward two in Susquehanna Township is the largest in Dauphin County, so far they have seen about 2,000 voters cast their ballot, that is about 50% of all registered voters and that is with three hours left to go.

This election, was hard fought and expensive; the presidential election alone costing an estimated two billion, so if there is even a higher turnout than in 2008 and there are 140 million votes cast, well over $14 dollars will have been spent for each vote in just the Presidential election and that doesn't even begin to factor in the costs for all of the other contests.

Voting makes you feel good, We spoke to woman last night who said it best, "If you don't vote you can't complain."

If you haven't voted, you still have time to get to your polling place.
