Manor Township Police Log - August 10

1.DUI-Sgt. Carolyn Gundel has filed DUI charges against Paula Kirchner, F/33, Tom Paine Drive, Lancaster. At about 2300 hrs on Sat 30 Jun 2012 Sgt. Gundel was investigating an unrelated event in the Georgetown Hills development when she was advised of a possible domestic situation taking place in the 1000 block of Tom Paine Drive. Upon arriving in the area Sgt. Gundel found Kirchner behind the wheel of a running pick-up truck in the middle of the road. Kirchner failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI. Her BAC was later found to be .22%. Charges were filed through MDJ Keller’s office and a summons will be sent.

2.DUI-Sgt. Carolyn Gundel has filed DUI charges against Michael Book, M/46, Stable Drive, Lancaster. At about 1900 hrs on Tue 10 Jul 2012 Sgt. Gundel was painting lines on the roadway in the 100 block of Seitz Road so that speed enforcement could be conducted in this area. The Department has received complaints from residents concerning vehicle exceeding the posted 35 mph speed zone. According to Sgt. Gundel Book was travelling south at a high rate of speed and she waved her arms advising him to slow down. Book stopped and spoke to Sgt. Gundel at which time she found him to be intoxicated. Book failed field sobriety tests and his BAC was later found to be .16%. Charges were filed through MDJ Keller’s office and a summons will be sent.

3.BURGLARY-At about 0430 on Sat 04 Aug 2012 Officers Tom Moser and Colleen Tatara responded to the area of Oak Ridge Drive near the Manor Heights development for persons stealing out of cars. A resident in the area observed a male in a car who fled when spotted. The officers began checking the area and that is when Officer Tatara spotted subjects in the closed Laundromat of the Manor Heights housing complex. The subjects inside attempted to leave when the officers came through the doors but were taken into custody. They were identified as Kyrell Wright-Smith, M/20, Mountville and a 17 year old juvenile male from the Manor Township area. When officers checked inside the Laundromat they discovered numerous items which were believed to be stolen such as GPS units, lighters, US currency, sun glasses, iPods, etc. Officer Moser later charged Wright-Smith with Burglary & Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and he was arraigned by MDJ Benner. At the time of this incident Wright-Smith was out on bail from a Robbery case in East Lampeter Township and his current bail was set at $7,500.00 by MDJ Benner. Over the next few days the Department received numerous calls regarding Theft From Vehicles in the general area of where the two actors were taken into custody. Some of the loot has been identified in these cases and additional charges are pending as the case remains under investigation.

4.RESISTING ARREST & OBSTRUCTING EMERGENCY SERVICES-Officer Matt Wolf has charged Larry Byers, M/51, Temple Ave Lancaster with several charges regarding an incident that took place shortly after midnight on Thur 09 Aug 2012. At approx. 0030 hrs on that date officers responded to the 2000 block of Temple Ave for several calls regarding a man outside yelling and banging on things. When officers arrived they saw Byers who swore at them and went in his residence. Officers eventually spoke to him and calmed him down but this was short lived. Shortly after clearing the scene Byers began calling the County 911 dispatchers and Harassed & Threatened them. This did not go unanswered and officers returned to the residence where they again encountered Byers who was again yelling and banging on things. Officer waited for Byers to exit his residence where he was confronted and taken into custody. During this time he fought with officers and attempted to escape from custody while handcuffed. Officer Wolf charged Byers with Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Harassment, and Obstructing Emergency Services for continuing to call 911 dispatchers without having an emergency. Byers was later taken to Central Booking to await arraignment.
