One guarantee for the new year is that for the first time since 1995, there will be a new State Senator representing the 15th district. That district, which makes up most of Dauphin County and the northern part of York County, was previously held by Sen. Jeff Piccola.
Piccola had decided not to run in this election.
The race between Republican John McNally and Democrat Rob Teplitz has been intense and costly, and thought by many to be the closet senate race in the state.
Republicans currently dominate the upper chamber by a 30-20 margin over the Democrats.
Tuesday night, as the polls were closing, we were looking for Senatorial Candidate Rob Teplitz, we thought we would try at his campaign office across from the capitol. When we got there, a large crowd was also there, some who called themselves paid volunteers.
Those people may be supporters of Rob Teplitz, but they weren't there to cheer the candidate. Instead they were there to pick up $125 for working today for the campaign.
We were able to get into the campaign office and some of the workers were less than happy to see us.
The workers were paid Tuesday Night as Election results were announced.
Harrisburg City Council President Wanda Williams was there to help hand out the cash to campaign workers, she said the amount of support was overwhelming. "I think it is making a lot out of something minor, we've been so overwhelmed with the amount of support that we have had. We're just experiencing growing pains because we had so many people waiting to help."
John McNally, the Republican Candidate in the race said his workers weren't paid, they volunteered to help good government. "Nobody got paid in our campaign, we had about 700 hundred volunteers out there, the only thing they were looking for is good government. I ran the campaign I want to run, I ran a campaign that was positive, that was based on the issues, that voiced on leadership and dialog in this community."
