MERCER, Pa. (AP) — Police say a western Pennsylvania woman charged with stealing more than $1 million from her employer since 2008 told them she "gambled the money away" at $10 slot machines.
Online court records don't list an attorney for 64-year-old Jeanne Zacherl (ZAK'-erl), of East Lackawannock Township. She turned herself in on theft charges Tuesday and faces a Nov. 15 preliminary hearing. Zacherl didn't immediately return a call for comment Wednesday.
Hermitage police say Zacherl stole the money by creating fake vendor accounts when she was the accounts payable manager at Interstate Chemical Co. The (Sharon) Herald says she had 22 years with the company, which employed her husband for 27 years as a truck driver. Police say he didn't know about the alleged thefts.
Zacherl told police she lost the money at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort in Chester, W.Va.
