On Wednesday, November 7, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank received a $10,000 donation from Capital Wine & Spirits LLC – one of the largest wholesaler/brokers of fine wine and spirits in Pennsylvania and a member of the Charmer Sunbelt Group - on behalf of Capital’s associates and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. (No public funds were used in this donation.) The donation will enable the Food Bank to purchase and distribute nearly 700 turkeys for the holiday season.
At the check presentation, Mark Littles, President, Capital Wine & Spirits, LLC, and Joseph E. “Skip” Brion, Chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, encouraged residents of central PA and other businesses/organizations to pitch in and help the Food Bank achieve its goal of providing 5,000 turkeys to families in need in our area. The day of the check presentation, associates from Capital Wine & Spirits and PLCB volunteered at the Food Bank and packed boxes for the Food Bank’s ElderShare program and sorted food. PLCB associates also conducted a food drive to benefit the Food Bank, collecting items for a traditional holiday meal.
“Capital Wine & Spirits is pleased to participate in our 6th consecutive year supporting the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank,” said Mark Littles, President, Capital Wine and Spirits. ”We are proud of our continued partnership with the PA Liquor Control Board to help those in need in our area. We strive to really contribute to our community - today we have 40 of our employees volunteering their time alongside employees from PLCB.”
“Capital Wine and Spirits and PLCB have once again demonstrated their commitment to our community,” stated Joe Arthur, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank Executive Director. “Their donation will provide a turkey, the staple of a holiday meal, to hundreds of families in our neighborhoods. We truly appreciate the ongoing commitment shown by both organizations.”
Each year the Food Bank receives thousands of requests for frozen turkeys during the holiday season. To meet demand, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank kicked-off their annual Turkey Drive earlier this month, with an overall goal of 5,000 turkeys.
The Food Bank distributes frozen turkeys (as well as the side dishes that make a holiday meal complete) to hungry families during the holiday season, through a network of partner organizations in 27 Pennsylvania counties. Partners such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and senior citizen programs will either directly distribute the turkeys or prepare turkeys on-site to serve their clients.
The public can donate frozen turkeys, as well as the ingredients for side dishes at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank office at 3908 Corey Road,
Harrisburg during the following hours:
Weekdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
