More than half of U.S. smartphone users consult their phone before a doctor for health advice, according to a new Pew Research Internet Project study.
A total 52 percent of people use their smartphone to gather medical information, compared with the 6 percent of non-smartphone owners.
Of the 3,014 people surveyed, 53 percent identified their device as a smartphone — classified in Pew's report as an iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, or Windows Phone; 40 percent reported owning a regular cell phone. Among the entire population of Pew's participants, one in three surf their device for health details, a number that rose from 17 percent two years ago.
