Last year, about 68,000 American veterans were homeless.
The VFW Post 23 in Lebanon is taking to the streets Friday night and Saturday to raise awareness.
Friday morning, members lined up along Cumberland Avenue collecting cash for veteran's in need programs.
Later Friday night, they will voluntarily become homeless and only have a limited supply of food and water. Then they'll depend on the public for help.
Last year they raised over $6,000 and it all started after one of the members met a young marine who came back from Iraq homeless.
"It was very sad, very sad so it kind of spurred me to sit there and do something,” explained VFW Post 23 Jr. Commander Bill Meiser. “So I got a group of vets in our post together and friends coming out to support us."
The post members will be along the west side of Ninth Street at Fisher's Veterans Park and Cumberland Avenue at Ninth Street in Lebanon until Saturday afternoon.
