When a Lancaster County man was gunned down and killed in his own home, police believe his killers also took off with hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Three men face charges related to the murder, but the cash is no where to be found.
Police believe it is that cash that is the motive for Douglas Herr's murder.
Police have questioned the alleged killers friends and relatives, but so far have not been able to find the money. If and when they do and if someone is found to have been hiding it, they will face felony charges.
Douglas Herr, 62, was a widow, he was shot in the head and killed in his Drumore Township home in August.
The three men charged with his death, brothers Kyle and Cody Wunder and Stephen Harmer are believed to have killed Herr while trying to steal about $200,000 from his Furniss Road Home.
Herr had the money in a safe, after getting it from a settlement in his wife's 2009 death. Only a small amount of that cash has been recovered.
District Attorney Craig Stedman says it's likely someone close to the trio is hiding the money, or at least knows where it is.
Friends and family of the three have been questioned, but so far, that hasn't led to the money.
Stedman says anyone found to be hiding it would be charged, possibly with a felony.
Police paperwork says Harmer claims he stayed outside the home during the shooting and robbery, but he is the one who knew Herr had the cash because he was friends with Herr's daughter.
Stedman also called the missing money a re-victimization of the Herr family, since the money would go to his estate.
The three charged will likely all face homicide trials.
