Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happended Wednesday around 5 p.m in Lancaster.
A 24-year-old man shot and killed in the 500 Block of South Lime Street.
When we arrived on the scene the police were patrolling the neighborhood not just with their sidearms, but with rifles as well.
They had several streets blocked off including the 500 block of South Lime Street and Dauphin Street between South Lime and Pershing Street.
There were many residents trying to find out what happened. Dawn Boots lives in the area and she is concerned because she doesn't know what is happening. "It's so sad this, is a very good neighborhood, this area right here, so it's so said its a historic family, around the corner you had the McFadins, the Cunningham's, the Gentry's, we all grew up together, so I really need to know who it was and what happened I'm not getting any answers yet."
By around 7 p.m. the police were no longer patrolling with their heavy weapons.
Police took the victim's mother away from the scene shortly after the shooting, she was reportedly yelling, "That's my son."
For several hours a group of about 20 that described themselves as 'family' were gathered across the street from the shooting, but no one would give us the name of the victim, some said they were not even completely sure who it was.
The mobile forensics unit arrived around 7:30. At about 8:15 we spoke to member of the coroners office, who told me the body had still not yet been removed from the crime scene.
Early in the evening police told us in the media to go staging area at the nearby Phoenix Academy where we were told police would arrive to brief on what had happened. The police never arrived and our calls to the Lancaster's Police public information officer were not returned.
Police are still on the scene investigating. We will bring you the latest as we get it.
