Local school district considers scheduling change

Board members in the West Shore School District are expected to vote on changing scheduling at the district's two high schools, and not everyone is happy about it.
The district says in the spring the board was presented with a plan to move away from its current block scheduling to a standard eight-period schedule, but members decided they needed more time to review all options.
It then organized a high school scheduling committee which decided that a six-period-day, two-semester model would be most effective for teaching.
On the West Shore Coalition for Student Achievement's Facebook page many people argue that this new form of scheduling would reduce the opportunity for students to pursue electives including music, foreign languages, and ROTC.
We've been told there may be a student protest at tonight's meeting -- which starts at seven.
