At 5:40am Saturday, November 17 a male wearing a hoodie, blue jeans, and a camouflage mask entered the McDonalds and walked behind the counter. The suspect walked past employees, asked for the manager, and told the manager to open the safe. The suspect then took a bank envelope from the safe with an undisclosed amount of cash inside and left by vehicle from the parking lot.
A witness in the drive-thru called police and followed the suspect onto Route 30 West. The witness relayed her location to county dispatch and Columbia Borough, Hellam Twp, and Wrightsville Borough police were set to apprehend at Route 30 west and Route 441. The suspect failed to stop for police vehicles and was then involved in a motor vehicle accident and apprehended at the scene of the vehicle accident.
It was later reported to police the vehicle the suspect was driving had been stolen.
