No new taxes in York and no cuts to services. That’s the good news from Mayor Kim Bracey on the proposed York City 2013 budget.

Mayor Bracey explained her proposed budget Tuesday morning and Tuesday night, she’ll present it to city council.

While this budget seems like good news for York, there could still be problems down the road.

The budget Mayor Kim Bracey is presenting keeps almost all public services and safety in place.

It also has no tax increase, that’s credited to the city’s collection of more than $1 million in past utility bills and a $600,000 cut down on city firefighter overtime.

The proposed $95 million budget essentially freezes department spending.

But the city’s business administrator warns this is not what should be expected down the road. In 2015 the city is required to contribute more to employee pension funds.

“And we anticipate pension obligation will climb significantly in 2015 so over the next couple of years we have to look at lots of different ways to address that and have the city meet it without causing financial havoc,” cited City Business Administrator Michael O’Rourke.

Again, Tuesday night Bracey presents the budget to city council. They have the opportunity to look at it and ask questions and then the budget must be approved by December 31.
