The four people accused of murdering a Hess Express clerk Sunday night are in Cumberland County Prison without bail.
The victim’s neighbors were shocked and horrified when they learned of the crime.
Linda Ness had about 30 minutes left in her Sunday night shift at the Hess Express off of Carlisle Pike in Silver Spring Township. But she was shot to death by a would-be robber while an accomplice stood by and watched.
Ness was a mother and grandmother who worked at the store for three years.
The convenience store clerk lived here in downtown Carlisle. Her second floor apartment, which she shared with a boyfriend, was only two blocks south of the square and above a favorite breakfast and lunch eatery.
She seldom ate there, neighbors say, probably because she was such a great cook. Those living in those apartments are a close knit group. George Boychock knew her for 20 years.
Jamie Timmons says she saw Linda Ness nearly every day and remembers seeing her in her uniform waiting for a ride to work.
Another neighbor mentioned how much he enjoyed seeing her and her boyfriend dance at their outback summer picnics.
Of course each one of them wondered what would prompt the robber to pull the trigger on this seemingly innocent mother and grandmother.
