You wouldn't normally see kids along the streets, keeping warm by the fire. About 60 kids are waking up this morning after spending the night in cardboard boxes.
Since Wednesday afternoon they turned the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg to cardboard city.
One participant, Hannah Heiges, says it's an experience that serves as a reminder. "You definitely learn how grateful you are."
The church held their annual homeless sleep out. But when they weren't sleeping, they were along the road collecting money. Lisa McCaffrey, the Youth Pastor at the church says they're working to collect money for the needy. "They are trying to reach our goal so they're standing out there getting money." The money will be used to provide food and clothes.
They raised more than $6,000 for New Hope Ministries.
This is the 21st year for the sleepout, participants slept in cardboard boxes with only a sleeping bag and blankets.
