CORAOPOLIS, Pa. (AP) — A 12-year-old boy is hospitalized with severe burns after an explosion that also injured two other boys near Pittsburgh.

Georgette Brown says her son, Peyton, was in a medically induced coma after he and the other boys tried to use gasoline on a bonfire Monday afternoon in Coraopolis.

The Coraopolis Fire Department says it appears the plastic gas exploded when the boys tried to pour the liquid on the flames.

Georgette Brown says she heard an explosion in the yard then saw her son on fire. Family members and a gas utility employee who was nearby helped extinguish the flames.

Two other boys escaped with minor injuries.
