HARRISBURG, PA(November 26, 2012) – In honor of the holiday season, Dauphin County Commissioners Jeff Haste, Mike Pries and George P. Hartwick, III, today invited all county employees to volunteer in a joint project with the Dauphin County Library System by reading to children at local libraries across the county, beginning Monday, December 3.
“The holidays are about so much more than spending money on expensive merchandise,” said Commissioner Haste. “The holiday season is about working together to create a strong and prosperous community.”
Children’s books will be selected by each library with the theme of “Community Helpers”. Each program will include story time and fun activities. Children will range in ages from three to six, and every child that attends will receive a book to keep.
“Volunteering may seem like a small gesture, but it makes a world of difference, especially to children,” said Commissioner Pries.The following dates and locations have been chosen for employees to volunteer their time reading to children:
· December 3, 6-7 p.m., East Shore Area Library, 4501 Ethel Street in Harrisburg
· December 4, 6-7 p.m., Kline Library, 530 South 29th Street in Harrisburg
· December 4,6-7 p.m., Northern Dauphin Library, 683 Main Street in Lykens
· December 5, 6-7 p.m., Elizabethville Area Library, 80 North Market Street in Elizabethville
· December 8, 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., William H. & Marion C. Alexander Family Library, 200 West Second Street in Hummelstown
· December 8, 10:30-11:30 a.m.,Johnson Memorial Library, 799 Center Street in Millersburg
