For most 8-year-old boys video games and sports may be two things they think about the most, but Wyatt Hahn an Adams County 2nd grader is more concerned about local government.  So much so that on his 8th birthday that he was officially appointed as 'Assistant Mayor' of Abbottstown Borough.

According to our constitution you have to be at least 35 to be president, 30 to be senator and 25 to be a member of congress, but nowhere in there is a minimum age to be the Assistant Mayor in Abbottstown, 8 is just fine.

"I wanted to help the mayor for the town because I just thought he needed some help." Wyatt said.

Wyatt thinks community improvements are very important.  "This year we get to decorate the circle."  But for this second grader that is only the start.

He is also a leader at his elementary school.  "They like it because its like I'm a leader, I have my ways."

Wyatt's Mother, Addrean Hahn says he brings ideas from his school and people he knows to the meetings to make changes. "His teacher wanted to know when the circle was getting fixed, so when they opened the meeting for new business he raised his hand and said, my teacher wants to know when our circle getting fixed.  He brings the business to the committee."

Wyatt may be the youngest Assistant Mayor in America.

Abbottstown Borough Mayor, Perry Shearer says Wyatt doesn't take his position lightly. "Wyatt is very serious about his position and he takes his position very seriously."

He already has his future planned out. "I want to be the mayor, the real mayor when I grow up, like when I am 18."

One of Wyatt's first official acts as Assistant Mayor was to present a pin to his father James.  "He was in the Marines for 20 years and 15 days in the war and I was proud of him."

James Hahn, Wyatt's dad says he is very proud of his son.  "He had some cards printed up about my service in the Marine Corps it was pretty amazing, I was pretty proud."

It is even a family affair, his brother Garett handles security and his cousin Trinity deals the with PR.

Here is the bottom line with this politician.  "I just want to help the town with stuff they need. If like Perry is busy they can just call me.  I think I can do this for a long time."

Somehow in addition to his duties of the Assistant Mayor of this borough of 1,011, Wyatt has found time to play lacrosse, and earn a blue belt in karate.
