MARTINSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania deer hunter has found what dozens of searchers could not — an 84-year-old fellow hunter reported missing in central Pennsylvania.
Officials tell the Altoona Mirror (http://bit.ly/V2BpVd ) that George Hammel Jr., of Hollidaysburg, was reported missing after he became separated by his hunting party on Monday.
The man survived the night in sub-freezing temperatures before another hunter stumbled onto Hammel Tuesday morning who determined he was lost and drove him to search crews.
About 90 searchers, including some 30 volunteers, and bloodhounds had been scouring the area where Hammel was last seen near Martinsburg. That's about 90 miles east of Pittsburgh.
Hammel was taken to Altoona Regional Hospital as a precaution.
