It was a day to honor those leaving to serve the country.

There for her only son, Lisa Scaife, said her son is ready. "He's a great guy.  He would do anything for anybody.  He's actually very excited about this."

Dane Boltz was here getting ready to leave for his first deployment.  "I'm nervous and excited.  I want to do this."

The strength of our Army is our soldiers, and the strength of our soldiers is our families.  For nine months, they'll sacrifice time from their family.

Deanna's husband is also deploying today.  "I'd give my right arm for him to stay home tonight."

While some embraced loved ones, some wanted to spend every minute with man's best friend, his dog.  Melissa Leeper brought the family dog to say goodbye to her husband.   "Charcoal is a Siberian Husky, one-year-old.  It's my husband's pride and joy."  The family all came to say goodbye, but during the ceremony, Melissa's husband ended up going on an unexpected mission.

Charcoal broke loose and a 45 minute chase ensued.

The family caught up with Charcoal and had a sweet reunion afterall.

A simple, playful reminder of a sacrifice one will make for their best friend.
