UPDATE 2: Police release statement on fatal Lebanon Co. crash

UPDATE:

FromNorth Lebanon Township Police:

On Wednesday, 5 December 2012 at 0117  hours (1:17AM) North Lebanon Township Police Department was dispatched to a two car head-on crash in the 2000 block of Route 72 North, in North Lebanon Township. A black Pontiac Grand Am driven by John Evans, age 44, Annville, was traveling north, the second vehicle was being operated by a 31 year old female traveling south. The North Lebanon Township Police Department is investigating the crash with assistance from the Lebanon County Reconstruction Team. As a result of the crash the 31 year old female was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lebanon County Coroner Doctor Jeffrey Yocum. We are withholding the name of the 31 year old female pending notification of the family. The male driver was transported to the Hershey Medical Center for injuries as a result from the crash.

Route 72 has been re-opened.

CBS 21 News is following breaking news out of Lebanon where a city street is closed following a fiery fatal crash.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 1:20 this morning in the 2,000 block of West Maple Street, also State Route 72.

County Dispatchers tell us crews have Route 72 between 12th and 22nd Streets closed at this time.

Dispatchers tell CBS 21 News two cars crashed head on, causing a fire and trapping the victims.

Crews on scene put out the flames and extricated the victims.

Dispatchers say one person has died and the coroner was called to the scene.

They also say one person was transported to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, but their injuries are unknown at this time.

It's not clear what caused the crash, as police are still investigating.
