A Garden Spot High School student's video project has gone viral, racking up hundreds of thousands of hits, but for all the wrong reasons. The student based her project off the popular "Gangnam Style" dance and song. It's a parody of the smash hit, substituting lyrics about the Spartan Spirit.
But then came the Youtube upload, and soon hundreds of thousands were calling it, "Worst Gangnam Style video on the internet of all time."
There are thousands of comments about the video online and most of them are, unfortunately, not supportive. One commenter says he'd prefer to watch the taliban attack, another says listening to it should be the new waterboarding.
But leaders at Spartan High School have turned this unsuspecting viral video into a lesson about ignoring cyber bullying.
Principal Matt Sanger says the explosion, has been overwhelming for the girl. The video is on its way to one million views, with comments ranging from "Worst thing i ever saw" to "Could they have at least found someone with a sense of rhythm?"
Sanger himself is in the video, so is Dean of Students Eli Cox.
Cox says he didn't think twice about appearing in the project and hasn't regretted supporting the student once. "Showing them we're willing to step out of comfort zone and do what they're doing even if some people might think it's corny. Well, let them go on being bitter we're going on loving life."
He says ignoring it wasn't an option, instead, it was a moment to teach students about ignoring cyber attacks. "The adults chosing to say you know what, lets stop acting like we're embarrassed because we're not. This is great, why don't we say that? And what we started and really support has rallied around from adults and and students here."
While Spartan Style will now live on in the internet world forever, the real hope here is the Spartan message "Respect Others" will end up being the real hit.
The principal says the girl is doing ok, and is being supported at school.
