In case of emergency text, 911. The Federal Communications Commission says the nation's four largest wireless carriers have agreed to make emergency texts available by May of 2014.
Major roll outs of the texting system are expected next year. The FCC says through the agreement, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-mobile users will be able to access emergency services by texting 911.
The agency says it would help people who cannot call because it would put them in danger.
It would also help people with certain disabilities.
