On Saturday, the Manheim Downtown Development Group hosted their 12th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The event was a big success with outstanding performances and our largest crowd yet. As the event was coming to a close, the volunteers realized the cash box was missing from the organization's booth.
"It's extremely disappointing that someone would take the money." said Doreen Ober, Main Street Manager "This event, like our others, are run by volunteers who dedicate their time and talent to bring these family fun events to our community. The events typically raises enough money to cover the expenses for that particular event. We estimate that approximately $500-600 was stolen from the booth.
The Manheim Downtown Development Group is a non-profit organization that follows the National Main Street four-point approach to community revitalization. Along with events held throughout the year, the organization creates marketing opportunities for businesses, hosts business education workshops, beautification programs such as the facade improvement grants and adopt a block, and other valuable programs to support the community."
If you have any information regarding the stolen funds, please contact the Manheim Borough Police at 665-2481 or the Manheim Downtown Development Group at 665-1762.
