A hit and run driver crashes into a well-known market in York.

Neighbors say they heard what sounded like a gun shot right before the crash. Police have identified a person of interest, but the store is left with quite a bit of damage.

A caved in wall, scattered bricks and a bumper, all left behind after a hit and run driver crashed through Penn’s Grocery Market.

Store employee Young Kwon says the driver must have been speeding, since the impact was enough to shove three large soda coolers away from the wall inside.

“I’m looking at probably 40 miles an hour he was driving, into this corner, somebody could get hurt or die by that,” Kwon told us.

The driver took off, but left behind pieces of his car. Those pieces included a license plate Kwon says was used to track a suspect down in the 800 block of Wallace Street.

It happened around four Tuesday morning while the store was closed. Police called Kwon and his brother-in-law at home to tell them.

“We worked two to three hours picking up the cooler,” Kwon explained. “It’s so heavy my back hurts now, pick up broken glass all over.”

They’ve still got cleaning to do, but in the mean time Kwon has a message for the driver who caused the damage.

“If you have drunk too much, slow down and do not drive,” Kwon pleaded.

There is no information yet about that suspect, but police do know who he is.
