On December 8, an Upper Allen Police officer was traveling behind a car. The officer noticed the car stop, in the 2400 block of South Market Street, when it ran out of gas.
The officer stopped to help the individuals in the car when he noticed the occupants of the car had been smoking marijuana. Officers searched the car and found marijuana and paraphernalia.
Five people were arrested and are facing charges. George Z. Smith, 22, of New Jersey was driving the car. He faces charges for driving under the influence of controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
The four passengers, Andrew B. Cortese, 20, of Lancaster, Johnpaul I. Bertuglia, 20, of Connecticut, Joshua D. Taylor, 20, of Ohio, and Christopher J. Bosch, 19, of Lancaster are all facing charges for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
All were taken to the Cumberland County Booking Center where they were processed and released. All defendants will appear for a preliminary hearing before Senior District Judge Brenda Knepper at a later date.
