A York business did something sweet to help the city ridden by gun violence lately.
"The Meadows Original Frozen Custard" helped raise money for a cause that York's Mayor believes will help touch lives of children and may help to curb the violence in the city.
Since September, there have been at least four shootings at businesses along Loucks road, and some of them have been deadly. "The Meadows" is located right next door to Momo's Restaurant, where two of the shootings happened.
The business wanted to raise money to help give kids a place to go, so they can stay out of trouble. A portion of its sales on Thursday will go to help build playgrounds and fund family centered events in York. The organization in charge of it all is called, "Bring on Play."
Rebecca Wattenschaidt is the co-owner of "The Meadows", she says safety starts at home with family. " Having a safe community and environment starts at home. And families doing things as a family and being able to rebuild a park can promote families doing things together and being active and that I think will contribute to a safer community."
It's a move Mayor Kim Bracey also hopes will eventually stop the violence. "The community has been working with us in a number of different ways and they're going to trust and work with the police as well . We're all tired of the violence. We don't want this in our community. We have great, family oriented businesses. And we want those here. Not the violence."
The money raised at this fundraiser will go towards rebuilding Penn Park.
