Northern Lancaster Regional Police say a man posed as an insurance agent to get into a home, where he bound and restrained three women while he ransacked the house.
It happened on Friday at the 300 block of Indiantown Road in Clay Township. Police say just before 4:30 they were called to the home by a relative who found three women, between the ages of 84 and 90, tied up inside. Police found the home had been ransacked and household chemicals were used to cover the floor and the furniture.
Police say through preliminary investigation they believe a man entered the house sometime between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. He posed as an insurance agent, and once inside the home NLCRP say he used a stun gun on two victims who were inside. He used tape to bind the hands and feet of the two women and also covered their faces.
According to police the man then began to look through the house for cash and valuables, and during that time he was expressing ill will toward members of Mennonite faith. He read passages out of The Bible to the women and vandalized the book.
As this was happening a third woman entered the home who was also attacked and restrained. The man ran from the home and police believe the victims were bound and incapacitated for about four hours. The women were taken to Ephrata Hospital for treatment, where they are still recovering.
The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 30 and 40, about 5'10". He is neat in appearance with a medium build, an unshaven face and short dark brown hair. He was wearing a blue suit and a yellow tie with a dark printed pattern. He was driving a blue Dodge Durango with an ornamental license plate on the front.
Police say the suspect indicated he was a previous member of the Mennonite faith. At this time NLCRP believe the women were targeted because of their faith.
