DOVER, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania state trooper charged with assaulting his girlfriend and driving drunk is suspended without pay.
State police confirmed Tuesday that Trooper Patrick Kelly of Dover was suspended Nov. 5.
The York Dispatch says Kelly faces charges that include assault and drunken driving.
They stem from a fight between the couple while they were driving home after having drinks in Harrisburg early on Nov. 4.
The newspaper says charging documents filed by Northern York County Regional Police indicate Kelly stopped his car and his girlfriend got out.
Police say Kelly admitted getting a handgun out of the car, but said that was because his girlfriend was hitting him and he didn't want her to get it.
Kelly didn't return a voice mail seeking comment Tuesday.
