Investigations into rumors of planned local school shootings keep increasing. Threats at three different school districts in the Susquehanna valley, have been reported.
Monday, in Dauphin County, Central Dauphin High School officials started investigating rumors of a planned shooting on campus for Friday.
Then Wednesday, in Lancaster County, a Solanco High School student was arrested at home. He allegedly threatened to bring a gun to school and start shooting. The 16-year-old told police he wanted to be like Adam Lanza, the one who killed all those children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Even though this teen is in police custody, the school district spokesperson Keith Kaufman, says everyone is still on high alert and increased security remains. "It's my understanding the student that was arrested did not originate the rumor, however made an inappropriate comment in regards to the rumor. And because of the thorough investigation that is being conducted that was turned up the student was arrested. Anyone who makes inappropriate comments or threating comments is subject to prosecution and that's what happened to this student."
A few hours later, CBS 21 News learned of an investigation at a third school district, at West Perry High School. The principal sent a statement home to parents: "In addition to a police presence, all students will enter the building through the main lobby when arriving to school. No other exterior doors will be unlocked at anytime during the day. Students who drive and park away from that entrance should plan ahead and give themselves an extra few minutes."
The Solanco High School student who was arrested for making threats, is at a youth detention center. Even so, some students here tell me they don't plan on going to school on Friday.
