As we head toward Christmas Day, the weather pattern has certainly become more active, with several chances for snow before we round out 2012.
The first system will occur Christmas Eve (today) into early Christmas Day. The system will bring light snow to the area during the late afternoon and evening, before temperatures warm slightly, leading to a mix of snow and sleet.
This snowfall will not stick on most roads, except for possibly some of the back roads through the mountains, and at this point ice does not appear to be a major issue either. With that being said, there could be a few slick spots overnight.
However, it will be enough to give us a white Christmas, which will make many people happy! Accumulations will total around a coating to an inch in most locations, with a few places seeing higher amounts.
Christmas Day is quieter, with some sun before a stronger system arrives Christmas evening through Thursday.
This stronger system will bring another mixed precipitation with things starting out as snow before changing over to sleet and possibly even some cold rain. At this point this storm will have a lot of moisture with it, but the transition will help keep our accumulation down.
However, the large amount of snow and sleet could make things quite messy for the day Wednesday and early Thursday as well. This system will also create windy and cold conditions, and those winds could be hazardous if we see any kind of ice accumulation.
Things quiet down for the second half of Thursday and Friday, before we get to the last weekend in 2012. Looking towards the weekend, another wintry mix is in store for Saturday.
