On this Christmas Day, there are many men and women in uniform who don’t get to spend much time with family. We caught up with one of them Tuesday who’s making the best of out it.

For most people working on Christmas, the day is kind of a drag, but not for every one.

“I mean, somebody has to do it, right?” asked Lancaster firefighter Louis Acevedo.

For Louis Acevedo, working on Christmas Day is not a big deal, as long as he’s working here.

“It’s an adrenaline rush every time you go and I love it,” Acevedo exclaimed.

The native of Puerto Rico just finished cadet training school and Christmas Day is his second day on the job. But he’s used to being away from family. The Army veteran served a tour of duty in Afghanistan that kept him away for months.

“It sucks a little bit, but I guess you get used to being away and working long hours, long days, weekends, holidays, you get used to all that stuff and the family gets used to it also,” Acevedo explained.

Ahead of him, Acevedo has a 10 hour work day. “They know the sacrifice that you are doing but at the end of the day they know I’m coming back home,” Acevedo continued.

When he gets home, he and his family will celebrate Christmas, which for him is one of the best ones, yet. “It’s a blessing for me to be here, even on Christmas,” Acevedo smiled.

Tuesday, Acevedo’s first day on the job, was a very busy one with numerous accidents due to the snow. But Tuesday was much slower, which considering his job is probably a good thing.
