A Glenville teen has been charged after a text message about drugs was sent to the wrong person, a police officer.

On May 21, an off-duty officer from the West Manheim Township Police Department received a text message that read “Yo its josh n dougs cousin u got ne mids.” The officer replied “yo what u need” and the reply was “a small of mid.”

The officer recognized “mid” as slang for marijuana. Through a series of text messages Schneider arranged a meeting in the Walmart parking lot on Baltimore Pike.

The suspect, 19-year-old Austin Neiderer gave the officer a description of his vehicle and texted him “Aight il b there in 5”. At 8:09 Neiderer texted, “Yo I’m here black expedition cowboys logo on the front.”

The officer and on-duty West Manheim officers arrived at the Walmart at 8:27 p.m., finding the Expedition with Neiderer and another male standing beside it.

Officers spoke to Neiderer who stated he was there to get an “eighth of mids” from “JR” that he had been texting. Neiderer turned his phone over to officers who saw the exchange that had taken place between him and the officer.

Officers were unable to determine who “JR” was or the actual number Neiderer was trying to text.

Apparently the officer’s automatic cell phone signature, “WMPD477,” referring to West Manheim Police Department and his unit #47-7 went unnoticed by Neiderer.

Neiderer was charged August 17 and a summons was issued by District Justice James Miner.
