Research shows that children are more successful in school when their parents are involved in their education. The York County Literacy Council has taking that research to heart: they created Readers Raise Achievers, a program that helps parents with their reading skills so they can in turn help their children. A $2,400 grant from York County Community Foundation’s Fund for York County helps keep the program running.
The program is open to York City residents who have children in grades K-12. Students use software and the Internet so that they can also help their children navigate the Internet and assist their children with digital learning. In addition, the software is interactive, so students are better able to reinforce and transfer their new reading and comprehension skills.
