As an incentive, the organization offered donors the chance to win locally donated prizes.
Five donors were selected as winners. The raffle allows United Way to reward those in the community who help donate to campaigns and give them a chance to share why they donate.
Those who pledged $208 or more or who gave $1 more per week than last year were eligible to win a Rustler Utility Vehicle valued at $12,000 courtesy of New Holland Agriculture; $7,500 in groceries from Darrenkamp’s and RKL, LLP; a four day Caribbean Cruise for two thanks to Travel Time & Bailey Travel; a $2,500 Visa gift card courtesy of Fulton Bank or a $2,500 Voyager gas card courtesy of Rhoads Energy.
The winners were chosen after they were picked from 10,000 raffle tickets.
The winners were suprised with a big check and balloons at the places they work. Those winners include:
- Susan Stone, of Lancaster General Health, received $7,500 in Darrenkamp’s Grocery Card sponsored by Darrenkamp’s and RKL, LLP.
- Tim Gabriel, of New Holland Agriculture, received the $2,500 Visa Gift Card sponsored by Fulton Bank.
- Michelina Kimmel, of Armstrong World Industries, received the Rustler Utility Vehicle valued at $12,000 sponsored by New Holland Agriculture.
- Karen Flaherty-Oxler, of Lancaster General Health, received the $2,500 Voyager Gas Card sponsored by Rhoads Energy.
- Melissa Fisher, of Certified Carpet, received the 4 Day Caribbean Cruise for two sponsored by Travel Time & Bailey Travel.
- Robert Horning, of New Holland Agriculture, declined United Way prizes and received a Rustler Utility Vehicle from New Holland Agriculture.
Upon being informed of his victory, Robert Horning, a raffle winner from New Holland Agriculture, said “surprised is certainly not a strong enough word to describe my thoughts.”
Karen Flaherty-Oxler, of Lancaster General Health, won the $2,500 Rhoades Energy Voyager Gas Card and said, “I’ve been blessed with people giving to me throughout my lifetime so I would like to able to do that,” Flaherty-Oxler said. “It’s vital that people give back to their communities—no amount I think is too small, every little bit helps.”
Winner of the $2,500 Visa gift card, Tim Gabriel of New Holland Agriculture, has been a supporter of United Way for 25 years and never thought he would be among the winners. He plans on using his prize to do some remodeling in his kitchen and enjoys giving to United Way because “it gives back to the community, to the people that don’t have.”
One donor declined United Way’s prizes, and a sixth winner was selected. Melissa Fisher, of Certified Carpet, received the 4 Day Caribbean Cruise for two sponsored by Travel Time & Bailey Travel.
