As the new year approaches, new laws are about ready to hit the books.

The government aims to hold you accountable to them.

New underage drinking laws, small gaming laws and even a new legal resident employment law
will be on the books come 2013.

New tougher penalties for underage drinking in Pennsylvania means that district magistrates have the increased power to raise the first time offense of $300 to a $500 fine and make the second offense a $1000 fine.

New child abuse reporting laws mean mandated training for school workers on recognizing and reporting child abuse. This includes identifying appropriate relationships and understanding the legal obligations of reporting.

New small gaming laws expand fundraising efforts for fire companies and non profits, increasing individual prize limits from $500 to $1,000. Also, the maximum amount of prizes that may be awarded during an operating week increases from $5,000 to $25,000.

A new state law will also make it an employer's responsibility to ensure all contractors and public works projects are hiring employees who are legal residents of the United States.

Also a new law increases workers and employers contributions to the state's unemployment compensation trust fund.

These are just a few of the new laws Pennsylvania will see in 2013.
