UPDATE:
A shooting in Harrisburg sent a man to the hospital Wednesday night. Police say the victim had to run for more than two blocks, while being shot at, to find help.
The victim ended his terrifying ordeal at Riva’s at 14th and Vernon, and if they weren’t there to help, he may have died.
"He just walked in here, you know, running, and he went back there and he collapsed. Collapsed back there." Victor Rivas, owns Rivas Deli Grocery and Restaurant where the victim went for help.
Rivas said a hispanic male in his 20’s, ran into his Deli at 14th and Vernon around 6 p.m. before falling to the ground. “He said he got shot six times," Rivas said.
Rivas said that the victim was a regular and ran to the Deli because he knew that he could get help there.
When he arrived, he was able to tell them that someone was trying to take his money, and when he ran, he was shot. “He just ran and he got shot on his back.”
Police say the shooting began at the 1400 block of Derry Street, and after running for more than 2 blocks, the victim made it to the Deli.
Rivas employees called 911 immediately, and they said while the man had been shot multiple times, he was able to grab his cell phone and make a call. "He was talking, he called somebody on his phone. He called his family or somebody," said Miegul Garcia, who works at Rivas.
Those who live in the area said they’re in shock that this happened right outside their doors.
Kimberley Hailey said not much happens in this area. "Just a little shook, cause i got my kids here. This isn't a place here that there's a lot going on. Not around here."
At this time police say they have no suspects, but they did find numerous shell casings along the block. They’re hoping that the public is able to give some information to lead to a suspect.
The victim is currently undergoing surgery at Hershey Medical Center, but sources say his injuries are not life threatening.
