The man who robbed a Shamokin Dam bank in November was sentenced Tuesday.

William G. Cowell, 32, of Marysville, Pa., will serve five to twenty years in state prison according to the sentence imposed by Snyder County President Judge Michael H. Sholley.

“The defendant got exactly what he deserved,” stated Snyder County District Attorney Piecuch. “I credit Chief Tim Bremigen and the Shamokin Dam Police Department for tracking the defendant down and bringing him to justice.”

On November 18, 2011, Cowell entered the First National Bank on U.S. Routes 11 & 15 and demanded money, threatening that he had a gun. He then fled with several thousand dollars.

The police investigation led to Cowell’s arrest in Perry County on December 2, 2011. Cowell pleaded guilty to robbery as a felony of the first degree at a hearing in June 2012.

DA Piecuch also complimented the following law enforcement agencies for their assistance in the investigation: Selinsgrove, Sunbury, Northumberland, Point Township and Paxtang Police Departments, the Pennsylvania State Police at Selinsgrove, the Union County Sheriff's Department.
