A Lancaster County community is grieving after a 16-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the head.
This is a terrible situation as a 16-year-old boy was camping out in his back yard when the gun he was holding discharged, hitting him in the head and killing him.
"I've known them for about eight years,” stated neighbor Dorothy Eller. “I just feel bad for the family."
At 2:30 Wednesday morning, in the back yard of a home on Green Lane in Little Britian Township, a 16-year-old boy died by shooting himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the home and the coroner ruled it accidental.
"My kids are shaken up,” Eller continued. “The whole neighborhood is shaken up."
A neighbor tells CBS 21 that the boy was with four friends when the gun went off. Neighbors also say the teens camped in the back yard all the time and firing guns seemed to be a family hobby.
We're told the boy lived in this home with his sister, parents and grandmother and that the family has lived in the area for many years.
"It still seems weird seeing it on the news and thinking that that's our front yard,” added another neighbor Amy Galbreath. “To know that that could happen just blows my mind."
"I feel very bad for the family,” Eller concluded. “The whole neighborhood is very upset. Rest in peace.”
This is the third shooting in the last week in the southern part of Lancaster County.
On Friday, a burglar shot a 62-yer-old man to death in Drumore Township. The suspect is still on the loose.
Then on Monday a man shot and killed himself in Fulton Township after running from police.
