PennDOT District 8 announced Thursday that preparatory work begins Sept. 5 on a project to repair and resurface a 1.65-mile section of Route 316 from the intersection with East Garfield Street in Chambersburg Borough to just south of Garber Road in Guilford Township, Franklin County.
The $1,478,661 contract was awarded on June 15 to Highway Materials, Inc., of Blue Bell, Montgomery County, and includes roadway base replacement, curb cut work required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, drainage work, milling and resurfacing, guiderail installation and new traffic lines.
PennDOT reminds motorists that from Sept. 5 through November they may encounter single-lane restrictions with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone on weekdays after 8:30 a.m. as crews repair Route 316 in preparation for resurfacing next spring.
Work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed by June 2013.
This section of Route 316 averages more than 7,700 vehicles traveled daily.
