The Center for Disease Control says this year's West Nile Virus outbreak is set to be the worst in U.S. history.
So far 2,000 cases have been have been reported and 87 people have died.
According to the CDC, there have been at least 16 confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in humans in Pennsylvania, and that number is expected to go up in the coming weeks.
Symptoms can be as simple as a fever or headache and while many cases can be severe, about 80 percent of people infected don't even know it.
While it's impossible to completely avoid mosquito bites, experts are suggesting ways to keep mosquitoes away.
First and foremost, get rid of any standing water around your home like birdbaths, buckets, and your gutters. If you go outside, use insect repellent such as DEET to keep mosquitoes away.
Mosquitoes are most active when it is darker, so if heading out at dusk or dawn, wearing long sleeves and pants can help.
"If people are getting bit during the day, those mosquitoes don't travel very far,” advised Cumberland County Vector Control’s Kelly Armstrong previously. “So that's when you should look in your own neighborhood and your own yard for the problem areas."
Later at 10 and 11, we will show you how local townships that have mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile Virus are trying to cut down on their mosquito population by spraying for mosquitoes.
