The Milton Hershey School wants to attract more students. But there isn't enough housing. So officials will appeal to South Hanover Township for approval to continue its long-planned north campus expansion.
The school plans to build the housing on the on the Hershey Links Golf Course.
The Golf Course property, was purchased by the school in 2006, with the goal of building additional homes for middle school students. The purchase is part of a master plan,to add homes to the north side of campus.
"This is an exciting time, as we continue our efforts to serve more children, consistent with our deed of trust," said Milton Hershey School President Dr. Anthony Colistra. "For nearly a decade , we have been focused on expanding our campus for that purpose. It is located immediately adjacent to our existing campus."
Thirty-two student homes have been added, so far, on north campus along Route 39.
The Milton Hershey School provides a home and education for more than 1,800 students from kindergarten to 12th grade.
Officials have not said how many homes will be built or how many new students will be accepted. There is also no set time when the project will be complete.
