UPDATE: Stolen cab crashes into river after police chase

UPDATE:  A man wanted for robbery and carjacking out of Bel Air, MD crashed a stolen cab into the Susquehanna River Sunday morning. 

Newberry Township police tell CBS21 News the incident started in Springettsbury Township, where police pursued a the man for driving with a flat tire.  Police realized the car was stolen from Victory Cab Company out of Bel Air, and a chase ensued when the driver didn't stop.

Police followed the cab through Manchester Township and Goldboro Borough, where the man drove the cab directly into the river.  The man was naked on top of the cab as it was sinking, and he decided to swim to the shore, police say.

According to Newberry officer Kevin Romine, the man is being treated for hypothermia and when he is released he will be turned over to Bel Air police.  Romine says because of the hypothermia they were unable to test for drugs or intoxication, but the man claimed sobriety.  The man was also wanted in Bel Air for armed robbery.

State Police in Maryland will take charge of the incident.

State Police, Springettsbury and Newberry Township Police are on scene of a crash into the river in Goldsboro Borough, York County.

A cab crashed into the river after a police pursuit that started in Springettsbury Township.

The driver got out of the cab and was taken into custody.

Crews are still searching for the submerged van.
