“I'd recommend that everybody has an emergency kit well stocked and on hand at all times,” explained Dauphin County Emergency Management Agency Director Steve Libhart.

First and foremost on the list is water, a gallon a day for each person.

Of course if you know severe weather could be imminent, one way to ad to you water supply is to fill up your bath tub.

You really need to have three days of non-perishable food as well.

It is also advised that you have a flashlight with some extra batteries and also a key tool to have is a weather radio.

Don't forget a first aid kit, also some plastic sheeting, which is important if you have to shelter-in-place.

Other things you need include plastic utensils, a can opener and of course you've got to protect yourself, so some extra clothing is key.

You may need blankets, rainwear would be helpful, hats, trash bags, which can serve multiple roles, as can duct tape and of course a pair of boots.

Other items recommended by FEMA include some cash, a whistle to signal for help, a wrench or pliers, a small fire extinguisher, paper and pencil, matches and also chlorine bleach.

By no means is this a complete list.

“Our spring times here in Central Pennsylvania are about as unpredictable as our winters,” Libhart stated.

The worst possible disaster for our area may not be weather related.
