An amazing tale of life and loving as Wednesday in York County a couple is celebrated their wedding anniversary, their 70th wedding anniversary together.
For their 70th anniversary we are introducing you to Harold & Marzella Wolf.
“It's a big surprise and I don't know why they did it,” admitted Marzella Wolf, who was surprised with the party.
“Well I think anytime that people have been married 70 years, that is unbelievable,” stated Dave Kloster, Executive Director of Elmcroft in Dillsburg. “I mean now a days seven years being married that is an accomplishment.”
When Harold & Marzella, now 91 and 89, were married it was the heart of World War II, March 6, 1943.
“I guess it was love at first sight,” Marzella stated.
“It was kind of tough,” recalled Harold.
And it was snowing just like it did Wednesday in Dillsburg.
“It was the occasional movie, but back in those days, gas was rationed and you didn't go very far,” Marzella explained. “There was no honeymoon.”
After the war, it was a little different
“We had plenty of honeymoons after all these years,” Marzella smiled.
The Wolf's worked their entire career in agriculture and during the war, bread was just as important as bullets.
“They needed food, they needed food, they needed farmers,” the couple told us.
Living a life time around Dillsburg, yes Harold still grows pickles.
“I'm still growing pickles this past year in my patch,” Harold told us.
The Wolf's raised four sons who are now 69, 67, 65 and the youngest Dan who is 54.
“That was the last big fling,” the couple admitted.
“All the boys turned out well and they can be proud as parents,” their oldest son, Tom Wolf says.
They now have eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
“It doesn't seem very long ago, the years went fast,” finished the Wolfs.
Snow, rain, heat and cold, its been all part of an amazing lifetime connection, while we might not be able to find a love that lasts for 70 years, maybe, if we are lucky, we can find one that is almost as deep and loving.
