HARRISBURG -- The trainer for one of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL draft says he feels little pressure when it comes to conditioning his client for the rigors of the scouting season.

Penn State defensive tackle Jordan Hill's current job is to get ready for his Pro Day on Monday. It's Ryan Mackes' job to make sure Hill is ready.

"He makes me want to challenge him every time in a workout," said Mackes.

Instead of traveling to Arizona or Florida and spending tens of thousands of dollars to train at a facility reserved only for elite athletes, Hill is working out under Mackes' direction at Gold's Gym Linglestown.

Mackes pushes him to the limit.

Hill has put his future in the hands of a former college football player he only met a few months ago -- but he and Mackes immediately hit it off after being introduced by a mutual friend.

"He knows what college athletes have been through," said Hill, a Steel-High graduate, who put up solid numbers at the NFL Combine last month in Indianapolis. "It's just the way he works with you.

"He's getting the best out of you, each and every rep."

Mackes, who once earned a football scholarship to Syracuse and also attended Shippensburg University, prides himself on finding new, creative ways for Hill to get stronger and faster.

"Anything I can do to help him live out his dream of playing in the NFL, I'm just glad to help," he said.
