Local events remembering September 11th

Several events will be held right here in Central PA to remember the lives lost 11 years ago today.

Governor Corbett will join the U.S. Army War College community to commemorate the anniversary and honor war college graduates who have died due to hostile action since the terror attacks.

The ceremony begins at 8:40 this morning in front of Root Hall at the Carlisle Barracks.

The York Habitat for Humanity is holding a Day of Remembrance and Building.

The event begins at 7:00 this morning at the York Habitat for Humanity building at 33 S. Seward Street, York.

Volunteers can write messages of remembrance on the boards used in framing.

Special red, white and blue screws will be used.

Also, taps will be played, followed by moments of silences to honor the fallen heroes and their loved ones.

The community is invited to Patriot Day at Dickinson College in Carlisle.

It starts at 8:00 this morning at the flag pole in front of Old West on the John Dickinson campus and will include the playing of taps as the flag is lowered to half-staff.

The President, William Durden, will lay a wreath and a student will sing "Amazing Grace."

The PA National Fire Museum is remembering 9/11 by tolling the tower bell this morning starting at 10:30.

The bell will toll for one minute at the exact time that each of the major events happened 11 years ago.

The bell will toll 343 times at five-second intervals for each of the FDNY firefighters that died at the World Trade Center.

Then, it will ring for an additional 72 time in honor of the other first responders that died at the World Trade Center.

The public is invited to intend.

The event is located at 1820 N. 4th Street in Harrisburg.

The Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg is holding a wreath laying ceremony at 8:45 this morning at their 9/11 Memorial on Fox Road.

PA State Police Commissioner, Frank Noonan, will be they keynote speaker.

The ceremony is NOT open to the public.
